Since CCTV was introduced to the town it has measurably proved to have been a considerable success. Incidents of vandalism, criminal damage, anti-social behaviour have been reduced by a third and are still dropping. This has been achieved through proactive co-operation between and communication with the CCTV Control Room, the Storenet Radios, the Police and other agencies. This has done much to improve the feeling of wellbeing and safety within the town, which will have had an economic benefit to us all.
The CCTV system, run by the DDP, is jointly funded by Devizes Town Council and local businesses and organisations. The system costs just £21,000 a year to run (the most economic in the County). It is run by a paid part-time manager and staffed by volunteers. To keep it operational on a sustained basis we need to raise an extra £3,000 a year. The equipment has been operating since 2007 and is starting to wear out and parts will need to be replaced.
You can help by agreeing to make a small regular contribution per month to enable us to maintain the level of Public Safety that people have come to expect.
Devizes Town Council, Devizes Chamber of Commerce, Kennet Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses and the Devizes Community Area Safety Committee (DCASC) have joined forces to back this initative.
Along with those businesses who have pledged support Devizes Town Council will be funding the system to the tune of £18,000 per year. We still need your help to raise the remaining £3,000.
