Tales of political scandal are nothing new and Oscar Wilde's tale of a highly respected politician, whose murky past comes to light at just the wrong moment, is one of the best of its kind.
Lord Chiltern is a young politician on the way up and is being spoken of as Prime Minister material. He is considered as morally upright as anyone and could be and without a stain on his character. His wife, Mabel considers him an ideal husband.
However, his meteoric rise was not without compromise and his early indiscretion leaves him wide open to blackmail.
