Trowbridge Minor Injury Unit is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Chippenham Minor Injury Unit is open from 7am-1am seven days a week.
With a team of experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioners, nurses and healthcare assistants who specialise in treating minor injuries.
The Minor Injury Units offer a walk-in service, 365 days a year. Patients can be treated for:
- Minor cuts and lacerations, including septic wounds
- Dog and cat bites
- Strains and sprains
- Simple fractures and dislocations
- Minor burns and scalds
- Head injuries (if the person is not unconscious or intoxicated),
- Minor eye injuries
- Splinters and other foreign bodies in the skin, the eye, ear or the nose,
- Insect bites and stings.
The MIUs cannot treat you for infections and illnesses, such as:
- Sore throats or chest infections
- Leg ulcers
- Intravenous injections
- Blood tests
- Drug overdoses
- Pregnancy related problems
- Mental health problems.
If you experience any of the following, go immediately to your local Emergency Department or call 999.
- Chest pain
- Sudden collapse
- Suspected spinal injuries
- Complex fractures
- Penetrating injuries
An x-ray service is available from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and the last patient is accepted for x-ray half an hour before closing. There is an extra x-ray service on a bank holiday weekend, by appointment only.
