Devizes is a heady brew of heritage and shopping, with lots to see and do. Begin at the heart of our historic Georgian town, with its bustling Thursday market, alleyways, pedestrian streets and independent shops. If you are lucky, you will meet the Wadworth Shire horses making their daily deliveries, and you can follow them to the famous Wadworth Brewery, where you can take a tour to discover what makes their beer so special. Look out for gold from the time of Stonehenge at the nationally important Wiltshire Museum, and follow the Kennet and Avon Canal to the remarkable Caen Hill flight of locks.
People in Devizes are friendly, and you will find lots of things going on. Join us in our celebration of local Food and Drink in May, and our dynamic Arts Festival in June. Don’t miss the mix of the traditional and contemporary at our Carnival Parade and join in the fun at our famous International Street Festival at the end of August!
Fantastic countryside is all around us. You can get out and about – take a leisurely stroll along the canal or enjoy far-reaching views of Wiltshire’s White Horses on a challenging hike. Ride along our bridleways and trails or take to the skies in a hang-glider or balloon.
Not only is Devizes a fascinating place to visit, but it also makes a great base from which to explore. Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and Winchester are all within easy reach. We are at the heart of the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site, with its ancient stone circles, megalithic tombs and mysterious prehistoric landscapes. A visit to Swindon, headquarters of Brunel’s Great Western Railway, is worthwhile for steam buffs and shoppers alike. The popular Swindon Factory Outlet Village adjoins the Steam Museum, with it's GWR treasures.
However long your stay, we hope you enjoy your time in our town
